Pet Dental Care

Pet dental insurance is not too common, and generally not included in pet health insurance policies. Pet dental care / maintenance is more often than not a responsibility of the owner.

It is recommended for the most part that pet owners initiate a 'dental care regimen' at home so as to best avoid problems that would require the intervention of a veterinary professional. There are a wide variety of pet toothbrushes that are designed to facilitate the process of brushing your pet's teeth. Another suggestion is that pet owners choose food that is specially formulated to combat oral disease and plaque. (Look for products with 'The Seal of Acceptance' from the Veterinary Oral Health Council) It is also important that you engage in somewhat regular dental checkups with your veterinarian so as to catch any potential problems before they fully take effect. At least one annual checkup is recommended.
